Paper Abstract:      Though help systems have been considered a way for users to better understand and use applications, many are still resistant to them. Aiming to promote and encourage their use, the approach of peer help systems arise. In this approach, pairs of users can interact in order to complement the assistance provided by online help systems. In this paper, we present a process for pair selection using recommender systems. This process is intended to a collaborative learning environment and it uses a similarity index and relevant criteria mentioned by users. The proposed process was implemented in a peer help system prototype, and it was used by professors (most of them, from computer science courses) during two weeks. Data related to the pair formation process was gathered to obtain information about its performance. Therefore it was possible to analyze the potential of recommendation techniques in the pair formation process.
